Spotlight - Celebrating Javiera Balmaceda
Yesterday, October 4 was the birthday of Javiera Balmaceda and we cannot end the weekend without celebrating her.

Javiera is not just Pedro’s sister. She is a brilliant and fearless woman who started at the bottom of the entertainment business and worked her way up to become a true powerhouse. A Chilean woman and the daughter of exiles, she built her career step by step from studying economics and working at JP Morgan, to learning the nuts and bolts of television at Locomotion, to returning after raising her children and leading at Claro Video. Before joining Amazon, she managed content departments for several major international media companies, including HBO Latin America. Today she heads International Originals for Latin America, Canada and Australia at Amazon MGM Studios, championing bold, authentic stories like Cometierra, Venganza, Nadie Nos Va a Extrañar and La Oficina and proving that local voices can move the world.
Along the way, Javiera has often known what it feels like to be the only woman at the table. That experience has shaped her belief in lifting others as she climbs, opening doors, encouraging new voices and making space for creators who have long been overlooked.
Long before she was shaping global content, she was the patient big sister who let little Pedro repeatedly recreate Poltergeist scenes on her wicker bed frame just like the one in the movie pretending to be Carol Anne and even made him the lighting guy when she and her friends recreated scenes from Flashdance. Putting up with her dramatic brother might have been the perfect early training for navigating big personalities in the entertainment business.
Javiera pairs ambition and grit with warmth and generosity. She celebrates creators, lifts up new voices and shows that success can be kind. She makes us want to girl boss our way through life with confidence and heart, to dream big, lead with kindness and lift others as we climb.
Happy belated birthday, Javiera. Thank you for inspiring us to be brave, ambitious and compassionate while blazing your own extraordinary trail. And thank you for letting your little brother be exactly who he is and for showing us that dreams never die when someone believes in you.

Pedro & Russell Just Gave Us All the Vibes
Pedj is out here fangirling over his pal Russell Tovey from full on theatre envy to Plainclothes gossip. Pedro affectionately nicknames Russell "Stupid," they debate how to pronounce Syracuse, and they both casually agree that being “vers” is the only way to be. It is messy, nostalgic, heartfelt and Pedro even sneaks in a mini film school lesson on 90s queer cinema.
👉 You need to read this interview. It is everything.
And while you are at it, keep an eye out for Russell’s upcoming queer indie film Plainclothes. Pedro’s excitement is contagious.
P.S. How is everyone feeling after this one… did we survive? 🌈✨
Pedro Stands Up for Free Expression
Jane Fonda has revived the Committee for the First Amendment, first created in the 1940s by her father Henry Fonda to fight McCarthy-era censorship, as new threats to free expression emerge. Pedro signed on as one of more than 500 prominent voices, once again standing on the right side of history and using his platform to defend the freedom to speak, question, and create.
Paparazzi Always Drop Before a Big Announcement
We also got fresh paparazzi gym pics of Pedro right before the announcement of the Behemoth! Instagram page and Dave’s casting — so we knew something was up. Here’s a link to all the shots — Pedro rocking short shorts, those gorgeous legs, and his Massive Attack × Doctors Without Borders (MSF) “Ceasefire Now” t-shirt. And, as always, when photos like this pop up, it’s a sign to be on the lookout for news.
Pedro as a Guest Star?
Benito Skinner revealed in an interview that Pedro Pascal is one of his dream guest stars for ‘Overcompensating’ Season 2, imagining him as Carmen’s dad, a teacher at Yates University, or any “daddy” role. We can only hope ❤️

When people think of Pedro Pascal, they often picture the Hollywood star. But behind the scenes, his older sister Javiera has been much more than just a supportive sibling. She was the one who would lend him $40 to make it through the weekend when he was close to giving up and it’s no wonder Pedro has called her his first superhero. In many ways, while she is his older sister, it feels as though Pedro was her first child, and perhaps still is. Their love for each other is undeniable and deeply moving.

RISE311: PROTEIN POWDER Review
If you’ve been following Pedro’s fitness journey with trainer Jason Walsh at RISE Movement, then you’ve seen Jason’s Instagram post of Pedro sampling RISE311 Dark Chocolate Plant Protein Powder.
In the clip, Pedro spits out his Gum of Perpetuity, completely misses his right hand, sheepishly tucks away the little lump of chewed gum in his left hand, and takes a sip of the protein shake. His eyebrows rise in surprise over the initial taste, his tongue dramatically licks his lips as he moans in exaggerated delight, and he agrees with Jason that it’s delicious. He takes a second gulp and immediately flexes and groans like a wrestler from the 80s. Before that initial sip, Jason tells Pedro to tell him if it’s not the best thing he’s ever had in his mouth, and Pedro chuckles, impishly repeating Jason’s words with wide eyes and a sassy eyebrow raise.
If you also watched this video approximately 268 times and you’re also as easily influenced by Pedro’s antics as I am, you’ll also find yourself running to Amazon to pay almost $60 for 23 ounces of protein powder. Are you able to discern the advertised notes of dark brownie, sea salt, and smooth cream? Can you appreciate that it’s vegan but has enough leucine for your body to absorb all the right levels of amino acids to promote muscle recovery? Will your coworkers and family members be grateful that the sprouted barley and pea protein are both patent-pending processed to reduce protein bloat and discomfort and ease your digestion? Will you add this to your morning coffee as a way to boost your protein intake in the morning and feel smug about hitting 30 grams of protein to start your day while thinking about Pedro spitting out his gum and missing his hand and shaking your head over how truly lovable and relatable he is as a person?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then it’s worth sampling Pedro’s favorite protein powder if it’s appropriate for your budget. Once my dark chocolate protein powder runs out, I’ll be ordering the Madagascar Vanilla version for my morning coffee to start my day off well with 30 grams of non-gritty protein and thinking about what are the other best things that Pedro has had in his mouth. As of publication, the powders don’t come with a measuring scoop, but you can order a $7 metal scoop directly from their website. Our humble suggestion is for Jason to offer Pedro shaped or Pedro embossed scoops to really motivate us every day for those protein shakes.
