Welcome to The Pascal Pulse

The People Behind the Username

We spend a surprising amount of time recognizing people by usernames, profile pictures, and tiny little icons. You start to know who always leaves the funniest comment, who translates something before anyone else, who has been around forever, and who suddenly appeared one day and never left. Then someone changes their username and profile picture at the same time and all bets are off. I know you...probably? It is funny, but it is also a little reminder that there is a whole person behind every account.

Recently, someone messaged us to say they were dealing with a lot personally and that our accounts had become a place of comfort and a little bit of happiness for them. That stayed with us. Most of the time we are sharing news, posting something ridiculous or talking about Pedro without knowing what kind of day the person on the other side is having.

Fandom can also be a little intimidating when you are new. Some people jump into the comments like they have lived here forever. Others watch quietly for weeks or months. There are different languages, cultures, social styles, and plenty of neurospiciness. Some people are shy. Some have had weird or negative experiences in fandom before and take a little longer to find their people.

We try to make our spaces welcoming, but that does not mean everyone has to agree or connect with everyone else. Sometimes boundaries are needed, and that is okay, too. One thing we have learned over the years is that community is not everybody thinking the same way. It is remembering there is a real person on the other side of the screen.

And somehow, Pedro is the common denominator.

One person arrived because of Joel, another because of Din, someone has been here since Narcos, and for others it may have been Silva and seeing a queer character given that kind of tenderness and humanity. Different characters find us for different reasons, and sometimes the ones that feel a little personal linger with us the longest.

Meanwhile, somebody else is probably discovering old Pedro interviews for the first time right now and wondering where the last four hours went.

Pedro may be the reason many of our paths crossed, but what happens after that is the fun part. People who never would have met become friends across states, countries, languages, and time zones. Someone sends you something because they know it will make you laugh, checks in when you go quiet, translates something you could not read or simply becomes a familiar name you are happy to see.

And sometimes you never really talk at all. Maybe you quietly like posts, read the newsletter every week or check in when you need a little escape. You are still part of the room.

So this week, we are turning the spotlight around a little.

Watch for our Instagram post later this week, where we will be introducing ourselves a bit more, too. We’ll answer three very serious Pedro questions, and then it is your turn:

Pedro brought me here, but __________ made me stay.

My favorite Pedro character is __________.

The Pedro character I’ll defend forever is __________.

We spend so much time seeing your usernames that we want to know a little more about the people behind them, and it seemed only fair that you get to know the people behind ours, too.

And if you do not have Instagram, or you are more of a quiet lurker, you are absolutely not off the hook. Reply to this email with your answers. We would love to hear from you, too.

Pedro’s Portugal Vacation Is a Foodie’s Dream

Pedro seems to be enjoying a very food-focused holiday in Portugal, and the foodies in us absolutely love this for him.

According to Portugal Resident, Pedro reportedly stopped at Pizza na Praia in Aldeia do Meco on August 7 with a group of family and friends, where they spent a few hours eating pizza and having drinks. He also reportedly left the staff a generous €200 tip.

A few days later, he was spotted at Solar dos Presuntos in Lisbon, where the restaurant shared photos of him alongside owner Pedro Cardoso and others.

Then on August 12, Pedro shared a glimpse of the solar eclipse from what we now assume was Portugal. And while the eclipse was doing its thing, someone in the background, possibly his dad or brother-in-law, seemed to be asking for help with a camera. Because apparently even a solar eclipse has to be interrupted for family tech support. We feel that one deeply.

Good food, family, pizza, Lisbon, an eclipse, and somebody who can’t get the camera to cooperate. Sounds like a family vacation to us.

“A Role Pedro Was Born to Play”: Christine Vachon Praises Pedro Pascal in De Noche

While discussing Joaquin Phoenix’s departure from De Noche, producer Christine Vachon reflected on the difficult circumstances surrounding the film before Pedro Pascal stepped into the role. Looking at the situation from a “glass half-full” perspective, Vachon said that maybe everything happened for a reason because this was “a role that Pedro was born to play.”

She went on to call Pedro “certainly extraordinary in the film” and praised Danny Ramirez as well, describing both performances as “a revelation.”

Directed by Todd Haynes, De Noche is currently in post-production. The 1930s-set romance follows two men whose relationship unfolds against a backdrop of political corruption before forcing them to flee Los Angeles for Mexico. And somehow, our anticipation level just went up again.

The Brigands of Rattlecreek Remains in Active Development for 2027

Another Pedro project is still very much alive. The Brigands of Rattlecreek, from director Park Chan-wook, is listed by Production Weekly as being in active development for 2027.

The dark frontier film currently lists an absolutely stacked cast including Pedro Pascal, Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, and Tang Wei. Pedro has been reported to play Dr. Abraham Weiss, a mysterious figure with his own reasons for revenge who joins the town’s sheriff in hunting down the outlaws responsible for its devastation.

Written by S. Craig Zahler, the story centers on a violent frontier town headed toward catastrophe as corruption, buried secrets, and a supernatural storm begin closing in.

There’s no firm production date yet, but seeing this one still moving forward, and Pedro still among the listed cast, is a very welcome update.

This Is the Way… to Disney+: The Mandalorian & Grogu Arrives September 2

The clan of two is officially heading home. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu will begin streaming on Disney+ on September 2, 2026, giving fans another way to join Din Djarin and Grogu on their latest adventure. And perhaps most importantly, September 2 means you’ll be able to watch wet, helmetless Din/Pedro in the water from the privacy of your own room, as many times as necessary, with absolutely no one there to judge your extremely serious commitment to the plot. Pause. Rewind. Repeat. For research purposes, of course!

And apparently September 2 is also becoming a very busy day for the clan of two because the trailer for the new LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian special has officially dropped, with the special arriving the same day. Expect tiny plastic Din Djarin, Grogu-sized chaos, plenty of LEGO humor, and some very important clicking. “Some heroes just click,” indeed.

This Is the Way…to the Podcast

In addition to The Mandalorian and Grogu heading to Disney+ on September 2, Lucasfilm has launched an all-new official companion podcast for the film, introduced by director Jon Favreau. The podcast takes us behind the scenes with Pedro and the rest of cast and crew, featuring stories from the set, creative insights, puppet-unit goodness, and a few surprises from across the galaxy!!

Doomsday: WHAT DID DOOM DO?! Pedro Shares the Intense New Avengers: Doomsday Trailer

Well, we didn’t get a Pedro appearance at D23, but we DID get the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer…and then Pedro went and posted it himself.

And now we have one very intense, very stressed Reed Richards SCREAMING, a crying Franklin, a devastated Sue, and a protective Johnny Storm?

WHAT DID DOOM DO?!?!?!

Sir, we have questions. We are concerned. We are also extremely seated. And because apparently Marvel wants all of our money immediately, tickets are on sale now.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters December 18. The clock is ticking!

Another Balmaceda Pascal We’re Very Happy to Brag About

We try to keep up with the Balmaceda Pascal siblings when there’s something public to share, and when Nicolás Balmaceda Pascal gives us an excuse to highlight his work, we’re taking it. Nicolás, a physician and data scientist, recently spoke with BioBioChile about using data and AI to improve healthcare in Chile. We came here because of Pedro, but we’re very happy to admire his ridiculously smart brother, el doctor guapo, too. Sir, respectfully, we are impressed.

And yes, Pedro came up. Nicolás is not only his brother but also a genuine fan of his work, and he spoke with so much pride about everything Pedro has accomplished. He also said Pedro has a very “caring soul” and is always looking out for the people around him.

Nicolás also touched on something we’ve talked about plenty around here: the negativity Pedro can receive for speaking openly about the things he believes in. He described Pedro as a “person of principles” who stands up for the issues that matter to him, while admitting he personally doesn’t give much attention to the hate, especially when some of the comments get too ridiculous to take seriously. We may have nodded a little aggressively at that part.

The interview was written by Sara Jerez, who gave Nicolás and his work a wonderful spotlight. Sara, if you’re reading this, hugs from us!

"Muy Exigentes, Always": On Growing Up Between Two Countries

In a recent clip from The Latino Majority, Javiera Balmaceda, Head of Originals for Latin America, Canada, and Australia at Amazon MGM Studios, opens up about the particular kind of in-betweenness that comes with a bicultural childhood.

Chileans, she jokes, are famous for their "bad Spanish", until a trip home tunes it right back up. But that fluency came with friction: Mexican and Argentine friends who didn't always follow Chilean slang, and American friends who spoke no Spanish at all. "That felt always really different," she says and it was the moment she first sensed the risks her parents had taken by immigrating in the first place.

What stayed with her wasn't just the back-and-forth, but the expectations that came with it. Her parents were "muy exigentes, always", insisting on top grades, looking polished and working harder than everyone else. As she puts it, that pressure to prove yourself "the best" isn't unique to Chilean families, it's something she believes most immigrant kids recognize, regardless of where their parents came from.

Her takeaway, with the benefit of hindsight: living between two places used to feel like something to resolve. Now, she says, it's something she's finally made peace with, helped along, she notes, by younger generations who are less worried about "boxing yourself in."

🐘 Pedro's Elephant in the Room (Literally, On His Skin)

August 12 marked World Elephant Day, and naturally, we have to discuss one of the most important branches of Pedro Pascal lore: this man really, really loves elephants.

And apparently, since admiring them from afar wasn't enough, Pedro also has a handful of tiny elephant tattoos scattered across his legs. Fans have long connected the tattoos to Pedro's famously close relationship with his siblings, though Pedro himself doesn't appear to have publicly confirmed that meaning in detail.

Then there's perhaps the most Pedro answer imaginable. In that same 2014 AMA, he was asked for his favorite classic Disney movie. Pedro chose Dumbo, because of course the elephant enthusiast picked the flying baby elephant whose entire narrative purpose is to emotionally wreck you. His explanation?
"I like to cry, what can I say?"

Pedro. We know.

So on World Elephant Day, we're celebrating the animals Pedro once described as magnificent, humorous, intelligent, gentle, and dangerous, which, now that we think about it, is also a suspiciously decent description of about 70% of the characters he plays.

Happy World Elephant Day to Pedro, Dumbo, the tiny tattoo elephants, and all the real elephants out there who have absolutely no idea just how much we adore them. 🐘

P.S. And because apparently loving elephants, getting tiny elephants tattooed on your legs, and choosing Dumbo as your favorite Disney movie still wasn't enough, please take a moment to appreciate Pedro in his little elephant-print scarf.

Tiny elephants around his neck, the hat, the moustache, the whole slightly chaotic 2015 situation…

Demeter’s Daughter: One Year Later: The Little Pedro Gem We Couldn’t Stop Digging For

Screen Capture from Tamar Rogoff’s Demeter’s Daughter

August 14 marked one year since we first came across this little gem from Demeter’s Daughter. Pedro mentioned the piece during his interview on NPR’s Fresh Air, which sent Mel digging…and somehow she managed to unearth it.

A year has passed, and it still feels just as special. There’s something exciting about discovering these small pieces of Pedro’s early work and being able to share them with all of you. To buy the full movie go HERE.

Artist Spotlight: @memeeeee.jpg

This week’s artist spotlight goes to @memeeeee.jpg, created by @belemcampas and described perfectly as “soft cinematic Pedro Pascal fanart illustrating the stories that live in my head.”

From Javier Peña to Marcus Acacius and Harry Castillo, each piece feels like a tiny scene from a movie we somehow missed, full of warmth, longing and just the right amount of thirst.

She recently shared that it had been years since she really let herself draw faces because they intimidated her, and that Pedro’s ability to look completely different from character to character made him quite the subject to tackle. We love seeing her push through that fear and find her way back to something she clearly has a gift for.

With only 13 posts so far, this already feels like an account worth watching. Go give @memeeeee.jpg some love.
